Bethungra Dam Free Camp – NSW

Bethungra Dam Free Camp – NSW

Bethungra Dam is a free camping area provided by Junee Council and has a single drop toilet and rubbish bins.  Access is via around 5km of gravel road from the Olympic Highway just North of Bethungra village which lies between Junee and Cootamundra.

A the time of our visit (March 2018) the water level was low. Warning signs were up for Algae levels. However, it was still a very pleasant bush camp for a few days.  Most of the area is not level but most of us carry levelling devices and it only takes a few minutes to level up.  During our 5 days here we had between 5 and 20 vans each night. Also we were alone when we arrived at 11am on a Thursday.

All in all, we would recommend this as a good value free camp, obviously well maintained by the council; Bethungra only has a Hotel. Shopping on the way here can be done in either Junee or Cootamundra or further afield in Wagga Wagga.
