Hello and welcome to our Campsite Review for this month.
This month we are going to take a closer look at Homebush Park Camp. A newly established private campground in the Southern Tablelands of NSW. With caravan parks and free camping becoming more crowded, sometimes a small private campground can provide the perfect alternative, offering somewhere that is more unique and often without the crowds.
Homebush Park Camp may fit the bill. They are only new and looking to establish themselves as a boutique campground that offers something a little different.
Location
Homebush Park Camp is a private established campsite set on 2 acres in the charming little village of Binalong.
Central to the Southern Tablelands
Homebush Park Camp is centrally located in the Southern Tablelands of NSW in the quaint and charming village of Binalong. Binalong has played a significant part in history with a strong Aboriginal heritage, and later home to various bushrangers and even a famous poet. It is in the perfect location to take advantage of day visits to nearby surrounding towns including Jugiong, Harden, Yass and Young and only 95kms from Canberra, each with a vast array of wineries, cafes, galleries and attractions particular to the region.
The Grounds
The campgrounds are spread over the property and are all grassed sites with some lovely shaded areas. The beautiful gum and eucalyptus trees on the property are perfect to relax under as you enjoy the views of the countryside and the hills towards Jugiong.

Most afternoons offer amazing sunsets, and during your stay you may even get to see some wallabies, rabbits, possums and new born lambs as well as a variety of birds.

Facilities
There are currently no amenities or power at the campsite so it is best suited to fully self-contained vehicles. There is bore water available or town water for those that prefer this, however this does attract a small fee. Fire pits are on site for the cooler nights, as are boxed wood bricks to get you started. There are more facilities on the way and they will be added as they grow, with plans underway for an outside toilet and B-B-Q area

Fees & Booking
Bookings are not essential, but would be preferred by your hosts, Trish and Bernie. This assists them to prepare your site in advance, it also helps them manage members so you have plenty of room, and you can let them know if you would like to partake of one of their spectacular fresh roasted lambs. Fees are per site at $10 per site, however as of the time of writing this article, all Free Range Camping Premium members are being offered a 50% discount on presentation of their FRC Digital Member card.
Pet Friendly
Trish and Bernie understand what it is like to have pets and therefore have made their campground pet friendly, so you can bring the pooch along to enjoy the trip with you. They only ask that pets are kept under control to avoid interaction with other animals on the property.
The owners
Homebush Park Camp is owned by Trish and Bernie who are both experienced and regular travellers themselves. Having travelled for many years, they decided when they settled they would like to open up their property and share it with fellow travellers and an alternative and affordable place to stay. They also own and operate Homebush Park Paddock to Plate on a nearby property. Here they breed Australian White Lambs, noted to be one of the best breeds for producing tender lamb.
Bernie is passionate about providing the best quality meats and part of the experience of Homebush Park Camp is to give you the chance to try first hand some of their spectacular lamb roasts. He and Trish love nothing more than to share their produce with you and offer the chance for guests, by arrangement, to take part in a freshly cooked roast by the campfire, or if you prefer to take some pre-packaged cuts with you.

What we think
Whilst Free Camps are awesome they can become quite crowded, and caravan parks are great depending on what you need. What we like about Homebush Park Camp, it that it is not overdone.
Being small and private, it is not overcrowded. You can stretch out and still have privacy. Visually, it is a beautiful location, and depending on the time of year, and rain of course, has beautiful outlooks to the hills.
Its location is also perfect, so you can set up in one place, and still get to see many others. Then there is the added bonus of the Lamb Roast. Nothing gets much better than a fresh juicy lamb roast cooked on a campfire.
We also think the price is very fair, even though at this stage the facilities such as toilets and showers are light on, it makes up for this in the privacy that the site offers. What makes it even better is the current FRC Premium Membership Discount that they are offering.
Things to do in the area
From the campground, you can walk to the historic Binalong village. There are basic essentials from the small general store. The pub is available for a pub meal and cold drink. You can also enjoy a steak at the Tara Motel Restaurant.

Binalong also has a service station, swimming pool, post office and coffee shop. Alternatively for more services, Yass and Harden are both less than 35 km from Homebush. Binalong overflows with history and some wonderful examples of colonial architecture. You will feel like you are taking a step back in time as you stroll around this beautiful little town.
