Caravans, RV’s & Kerbside Parking

Boats, trailers, and caravans could soon be effectively banned from being parked in Gold Coast streets. This is under a radical plan to free up more kerbside parking for cars.

Broadbeach councillor Paul Taylor, who moved the motion in Council said the issue was “becoming a joke”.
“We need those spaces … the kerbside is not a storage place.”

The council has received a flood of complaints from neighbours with claims the unpowered vehicles are basically being “stored” free of charge on public roads. The council has now launched an investigation.

Gold Coast City Council has now launched an investigation into how it deals with boats, trailers and caravans. Also could limit how long they can be parked in suburban areas to just one hour.  That would bring them in line with vehicles longer than 7.5 metres.  Buses and trucks for example, which can’t be parked for more than an hour.

“As far as I’m concerned, if you’ve got a boat, trailer or caravan – you either store it at home or in a storage shed … or leave the boat in the water,” Cr Taylor told 9News.

Recreational fishermen say a one-hour limit on boats could force some anglers to give up their vessels and are calling for common sense as Council conducts its investigation.

“I think a week would be a more appropriate period of time (if Council is going to restrict the kerbside parking of boats),” Bruce Anderson, head of the Gold Coast Sport Fishing Club, said.

Cr Taylor says the investigation has only just commenced.

It depends what comes up in the report,” he said.  “It might say (boats, trailers and caravans) can stay longer, who knows.”

What are your thoughts on this???
