Upper Stony Creek Day Park Reopened!

News update – Upper Stony day use site reopened.
A Rockhampton woman, Beck Anius, has successfully managed to push for the re-opening of the Upper Stony Creek Camping Ground at Byfield National Park.

Beck began a petition when she discovered that the right hand side of the campsite had closed down. A spokesperson for Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service said this week that the camping ground had closed down due to major upgrades to the area.
The day use site has been reopened just in time for the school holidays after it had been closed for major upgrades including installations of a new toilet, barbecues and other visitor facilities. Other works in the area are also in progress and it is wise to bear in mind that the old toilet facilities are currently being removed and there is noise associated with this activity.
Upper Stony features an open-plan campsite set amongst pine trees & natural bushland adjacent to Stony Creek. The camping areas can be reached by conventional vehicle, camper trailers and caravans, however be mindful that it is a rough gravel road. Facilities include flushing toilets, individual fire rings, water (treat before drinking). Automatic barbecues and picnic tables are provided in the day-use area only. Open fires are permitted in fire rings only and fuel stoves are recommended. Generators are permitted but may only be operated between 8:00am & 7:00pm provided they have a sound rating of 65 decibels or less. Mobile phone coverage is unreliable.

Byfield is a national park in Queensland, Australia, 70 km north-east of Rockhampton. The park encloses 12 km of coastline including four beaches
