Christmas Camping – Numbers soar as Campers begin their migration.

Where are you planning on camping over the Christmas period?
It’s so close now and if you haven’t planned ahead, life could become interesting right about now as people begin to vie for available sites.

Cooloola and Fraser Island camp grounds are reporting close to capacity numbers for the December – January period, with more than 20,000 holiday campers booking their own little slice of camp heaven. Most popular local areas are Cooloola, Fraser Island and Inskip Point

National Parks Minister Steve Dickson says “With a wide variety of national parks to choose from there really is something for everyone and we are working to improve accessibility so all Queensland residents and visitors can enjoy them.”

Last summer more than 97,000 campers stayed in Queensland national parks between December and February, a substantial increase  from the previous year. Of these people, almost 1/2 holidayed in the Cooloola and Fraser Island regions.

Queensland Tourism Industry Council Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind said Queensland was made for the great Australian summer holiday.

“Our many national parks and camping sites offer great, authentic experiences to both Australian and overseas visitors. We have a perfect natural ‘backyard’ here in Queensland and there is room for everyone!” Mr Gschwind said.

If you are looking to book an Aussie campsite over Christmas, don’t leave it too long….wherever you are planning on heading.
Happy Camping!
