On the Rise – Caravan Parks and Permanent Housing in East Maitland

This may be the much-awaited dream for caravan travelers and downsizing people who moved out of the city.

The East Maitland council has started to call for the public’s approval for developing a caravan park in the 13.5-hectare site off Mount Vincent Road, next to the tips and borders of Watergum Street and Shamrock Lane.

The proposal includes building 228 sites for camping, caravans, RV’s, and permanent mobile housing. Like a village, they are looking forward to create an administration office, manager’s residence and amenities.

Councilor Steve Procter greatly supports this plan and praised Dennis Wilton, the landowner for helping in addressing the city’s accommodation market. “Dennis Wilton is a man who gets things done”, he says.

Cr Procter also mentioned that this has been a call for a long time now and that there has been a lot plans in the pipeline before but no one has made a financial move to make them happen.

He adds that the new caravan park can address modern caravans and RV’s which cannot be catered by older caravan parks.

He further noted that this plan will provide some permanent and affordable accommodation for people who are downsizing or for those who have moved out of the city.

“It’s another way of living,” Cr Procter said.

The plans are also supported by the Mayor of Maitland, Cr Peter Blackmore.

The park would let the tourists enter the site from Watergum Street which from there, will be landscaped to design a secluded space. The site is close to the Hunter Expressway, the New England Highway, and Stockland Greenhills.
