Camp Sites for Travelers to Open at Maryborough Airport

Camp Sites for Travelers to Open at Maryborough Airport

Up to 50 new low-cost camping spaces will become available at Maryborough airport this coming new year.

Ultimately, this RV-friendly move is part of Councilor Paul Truscott’s new RV strategy to attract more travelers into Maryborough and Fraser Coast.

The Fraser Coast Regional Council voted in favour of allowing more camping sites in the CBD and other locations this year. The goal is to get the status of an official RV friendly town.

According to the spokeswoman from Campervan & Motorhome Club of Australia, Maryborough has not been awarded yet with a status but she also confirmed that an application has already been submitted by the council.

The council has given Doonvilla Football Club the right to operate the airport site. “The club provided a number of valid points that made their application stand out”, said Truscott.

As for the number of the travelers to be accommodated, the council’s planning scheme has initially stated that 50 travelers can stay at the airport. But as the tender to operate has been given to Doonvilla Football Club, the latter will be the one to determine the final number of travelers that can be serviced in the site.

More details will be provided by the club before the year ends.
