Wondering why you are seeing more caravans on the road?
The numbers are increasing, and a recent data report issued by the Caravan Industry Association of Australia shows the growth is staggering.
The report focuses on the growing popularity of caravanning and camping around Australia.
Since 2011, the number of caravan registrations grew tremendously by 30% while campervans grew by 20%. Over the last five years, the number had been increasing steadily.
The joint number of registrations of caravan and campervans spiked to the highest ever at 615,301 during the last financial year. This shows a 4.9% increase from the previous year making recreational vehicles the country’s fastest growing vehicle registration by type.
In total there are 55,434 caravans and 60,957 campervans exhibiting a ratio of 90% caravans and 10% campervans which continued to remain the same in the last year.
In addition, the average age of currently registered vans is 17.8 years. By analysis, potentially two thirds of campervans are due for replacement in the coming years—an excellent thing for manufacturing industries in the country.
Studying the matter deeper, it is found that 65% of campervans use diesel fuel while 74% of them have a tare weight between 1000 to 5000kg. On the other hand, 67% of caravans weigh less than 1.5 tons; however, the biggest growth in the last year has been between 2 to 2.5 tons. This indicates a trend that is more inclined to bigger rigs or ones that are loaded with all the mod cons.
According to the Caravan Industry Association of Australia, the report highlights the increasing demand for the caravanning and camping lifestyle in Australia, which signifies a huge positivity for regional communities that profit from tourism generated by this sector.
