When Can We Go Camping Again? – 3 Step Framework for Australia

When Can We Go Camping Again? – 3 Step Framework for Australia

The Plan, for us to get back on the Road

The Australian Federal Government has released a 3 Step Framework for opening up businesses and travel, to hopefully, get back to normal.

Here is the Stage 3 restrictions Document pertaining to specific industries.

Stage 1 Government Restrictions come into effect on Friday 15th May.  Each State is releasing its stipulations based upon what the federal government’s guidelines are.

The Accommodation sector is the sector that is relevant to all of us Campers, Caravaners and RVers.  There is no easing of restrictions relating to the opening of campgrounds and caravan parks (except for some states) during these stage 1 restrictions.  So in essence, everything remains the same.  Campgrounds, National Parks and recreational camping is still not allowed.  However, Northern Territory has opened some locations for camping from 1st May, Western Australia has implemented easing restrictions from 27th April, South Australia & Tasmania have eased some restrictions on the 11th May.

Stage 2, Coming Soon

Stage 2 Government Restrictions is the next step in the easing of restrictions, whereby campgrounds and caravan parks are specifically mentioned to be fully opened. Each state will have their own stipulations on the number of people gathering inside and out, but it appears with all going well, stage 2 will be the step where we can start commencing our travel to our favourite campgrounds.    It appears most of the states are working towards a date of 12th June, 2020.

Below are the links to each state’s respective guidelines on the 3 Step Framework.

State border remains but the recreational travel limit will be extended from 50kms to 150kms from home starting May 16. Home regions will allow holiday travel from June 12. Hiking and camping in national parks will be allowed from July 10.
