More Community Events Being Cancelled for 2021

Covid 19 just keeps on rearing its head all around Australia, and in turn, cities and regions are having to cancel events, that bring in huge amounts of tourists and tourism spend.

Multiple Events Being Cancelled

The rising spread of the delta strain of Covid is once again causing states to restrict movement and force lockdowns around Australia.

This is in turn, is causing many Towns and Regions around Australia, to cancel events.  August alone has decimated regional events, with over 30 iconic events scheduled all around Australia to be reschedule to later in the year or altogether cancelled until 2022.

Probably the most iconic upcoming event, the ‘Melbourne Cup of the Outback’, The Birdsville Races has become the latest casualty being cancelled for the second year in a row, now being rescheduled until 2022. With the QLD Government’s recommendation to refrain from travel from the recently lifted lockdowns, the event organisers made a call as the risk was simply too great.

There was an air of excitement for the Birdsville Races on the back of the successful ‘Big Red Bash’ held nearby earlier this year in July.  Over 10,000 people ventured to the foothills of the Big Red Sand Dune outside Birdsville for the three-day event, a record for the event.  With the success of that event, armed with a Covid safe plan, there was every indication that the races would be just as big and successful.

Other major casualties have been upcoming Camping, Caravan Expos in the Queensland and New South Wales regions.  The expos generate a much-needed surge in the local economy, with event attendees generating a nice income surge for the local economy.

Camping Carvan Shows now being cancelled again

September is looking dire as well, and it is very likely unless things get better with reported Covid-19 numbers, events that have been rescheduled for October/November will more than likely be cancelled until next year.  Many event organisers that have had events scheduled for September have already cancelled until 2022, with some organisers holding out for as long as possible until cancelling.
