Sunwater has opened a new camping site near the dam wall and spillway. The site contains 40 designated, clearly marked camping spaces on flat terrain. Recreational day use of the foreshore and boat ramp will continue to be permitted.
No bookings are required and all camping is free of charge, however stays are restricted to maximum of three weeks in any four week period.
HOW TO GET THERE
Wuruma Dam is due West of the Monto-Eidsvold road, (Burnett Highway) and is accessed via Abercorn, follow the signs and Wuruma Dam Road from here and turn right after around 19km to the camp area. (Straight ahead goes to the dam wall)
SITE ACCESS
There is a track around the shoreline below the toilet block and a couple of areas to choose from noth close to and overlooking the water.
FEES & BOOKINGS
There is no charge for the use of this facility, so if you are staying at this site we encourage you to help keep it clean, and please visit and support the local communities of Monto and Eidsvold.
FACILITIES
There is a toilet block on top of the hill where there are also skips for excess rubbish. Only non-potable water is available here. Please note that there is no dump point here but there are Dump Points in Monto and Eidsvold.
THINGS TO DO
Boating, fishing, trapping for Red Claw, water skiing are all easily done when the water level is high enough. Please be aware that boating, skiing and other water activities are not permitted within 200m upstream or 400m downstream of the Wuruma Dam wall. Take a short drive to the dam wall and see the information about the dam and it’s history.
For the keen photographer there is lots of bird life around the dam.
