ABOUT US
Sitting high upon a hill in the heart of the Tweed Valley and offering magnificent panoramic views of the Tweed River and its surrounding countryside, is the Tweed Regional Art Gallery and the Margaret Olley Art Centre. With FREE admission, and open to the public from 10am – 5pm Wednesday through to Sunday, you will be amazed by the beautiful gardens and lawns that surrounds this large, modern facility and its displays of first-rate exhibitions. Whether you are staying in a local campground, out for a day trip or just passing through Murwillumbah on your travels, this renowned tourist destination should be on your “must see” list.

Established in 2004 and extended in 2006, the Gallery now includes the completion in 2014 of the Margaret Olley Art Centre, which celebrates the career, life and legacy of its namesake, Margaret Olley – Australia’s most celebrated painter of still life and interiors. Margaret Olley’s home studio recreation is on permanent display, including the Hat Factory and the Yellow Room whilst the Gallery’s other exhibitions change regularly. Nine exhibition spaces host a vibrant program of historical and contemporary touring exhibitions, including a world class collection of portraits representing Australians from all walks of life.

Enjoy lunch in the Gallery Cafe with its amazing views and indoor or outdoor seating or buy yourself something special from the Gallery Shop. The Gallery offers a workshop, an education area, as well as a research library or you can participate in a variety of programs, including public events, concerts, exhibition openings, artists’ talks, demonstrations and workshops which cater for all ages. Trained Volunteer Guides offer 40-45 min guided tours at 11.30am Wed-Sun that will provide you with a glimpse into the history of the Gallery and the exhibitions on display, many of national significance, alongside curated exhibitions of established national and regional artists.
