Isla Gorge camping area – Isla Gorge National Park (CG)

Isla Gorge camping area offers open woodland setting beside sandstone gorge. The camping area can be reached by conventional vehicles. It is accessible for camper trailers, caravans and buses during dry weather. Isla Gorge is a great place for an inland stopover. The picnic and camping area overlooks the gorge and is just 1.3 km off the highway. Camp overnight and watch the sun set over the orange-coloured cliffs of Isla Gorge. Parks in this region are remote and undeveloped. Visitors must be well prepared and self-sufficient.
Number of sites: open area with no separately defined sites.
Camp sites are suitable for: tent camping beside your car: walk-in camping: caravans: camper trailers: small/large motorhomes and large groups.
Camp site surface: gravel and dirt.

SITE ACCESS
The camp site is near the picnic area 1.3 km off the highway.
Turn onto the Leichhardt Highway from the Warrego Highway at Miles or from the Dawson Highway at Banana. To reach Isla Gorge lookout, turn off the Leichhardt Highway 55 km north of Taroom and 35 km south of Theodore. The lookout is 1.3 km west of the highway.
You can reach the Flagstaff Hill section from either Taroom or Theodore.
From Taroom, drive north for 31 km along the Leichhardt Highway. Turn left at the ‘Flagstaff via Waterton’ signpost and travel for 49 km (9 km past the turnoff to Flagstaff Station). Turn left again and drive another 2 km.
From Theodore, drive south for 8 km along the Leichhardt Highway and turn off onto a road signposted ‘Glenmoral Roundstone’ and ‘Department of Primary Industries – Brigalow Research Station’. Travel 14 km, then turn left into Glenbar Road and, continue for a further 3.6 km before turning right into Flagstaff Road. After 9 km, turn sharp right into the park at a cattle grid on the top of the range. Follow the road for a further 2 km.

Please note: GPS Coordinates are approximate and provided in most cases to get you to the entrance. Once inside the park there should be signs to the actual camp grounds. Failing this please check with National Parks for further directions.

FEES & BOOKINGS
Camping permits are required and fees apply. A camping tag with your booking number must be displayed at your campsite. Aside from booking online, you can also pay your camping fees at the self-registration stand on site.
Fees for camping permits are:
$5.75 per person per night or $23.00 per family group per night.
$3.20 per person per night for students and accompanying adults on approved excursions.
FAMILY RATE. For camping fees, a family group is defined as one or two adults and accompanying children under 18, up to a total of 8 people. Children under 5 years of age are free.

FACILITIES
Composting toilets, picnic tables and fire rings (wood not supplied).

RULES
Keep to defined vehicle tracks and walking trails.
Camp in designated areas to avoid damage to fragile vegetation.
Take rubbish home with you – if you carry it in, carry it out.
