Situated on the Bruce Highway about a 1½ hour drive south of Mackay and 2½ hours north of Rockhampton, Flaggy Rock Café is conveniently located for drivers wanting a break when travelling between the two cities, whether for a bite to eat or an overnight stop.

The café sits in a peaceful, natural bushland setting with two billabongs and a variety of wildlife, including the occasional koala. It has recently changed hands, with the previous owners’ daughter and her partner, a qualified chef, taking over the operation of the business in early 2019. Since then, renovations have been undertaken to give the café a fresh look.

Open every day—with the exception of some public holidays—from 8 am to 3 pm, the café serves a range of homemade foods including pies and sausage rolls, gourmet burgers, ice-cream, salads, sandwiches, cakes, and hot and cold drinks. Breakfast, lunch and children’s menus are available. There is undercover outdoor seating for 35–40 people, so you can either enjoy your meal in the tropical gardens or get your food to take away.

There is plenty of parking available for café patrons, including a dedicated area for caravans, buses and small trucks. Those in fully self-contained RVs are welcome to camp overnight for $10 per vehicle. Pets are welcome, and there are several acres of bushland and parks where you can exercise both yourself and your pet.

The nearby community of Carmila, a short distance north of Flaggy Rock Café, has limited facilities, with fuel, a general store, post office and mechanic in the town.

HOW TO GET THERE
Being located on the Bruce Highway, Flaggy Rock Café is easy to find. It’s about 108 km south of Mackay and 228 km north of Rockhampton on the eastern side of the highway. If heading north, there’s a dedicated right-turn lane to enter the property.

SITE ACCESS
The property has a large entrance, so there is ample room for large caravans, campervans, buses, and fifth-wheelers to enter. Once on-site, look for the sign indicating the RV parking area, where there is plenty of space to pull up and turn.
