Who Are Brockenchack Wines?
Brockenchack is a boutique producer, with numerous prestigious awards. They are situated in the picturesque Eden Valley, high up in South Australia’s famed Barossa region. They sit between 450m and 480m above sea level, making us a cool-climate growing region.
The vineyard is steeped in viticulture history. Its first vines were planted in the late 1800’s and the land has been a working vineyard for over 120 years. It is nestled nicely between Henschke and Yalumba, two of Australia’s most renowned wine producers.
Brockenchack is the realisation of a dream for Trevor Harch. As a wholesale and retail liquor proprietor, Trevor was the unofficial Queensland spokesman for the Barossa. Showcasing and supporting Barossa wineries especially small ones wherever possible is one of his passions. He was also in construction and a farmer of avocados and persimmons.
The next logical step would be to turn your hand to growing grapes and producing your own wine – a beverage for which he had developed a deep affection for in his early thirties. And that’s exactly what he did. In 2007, Trevor and his wife Marilyn bought an established vineyard in Keyneton, Eden Valley. It has 20 acres under vine, and whose grapes were then going into one of Yalumba’s premium reds.
They named the vineyard after their four grandchildren; Bronte, Mackenzie, Charli & Jack. They are the life and soul of this adventure.
The passion and pride in what Trevor and Marilyn produce are evident from the outset. With a mission to always over-deliver on expectation, Trevor set out to make wines that people would love to drink.
Their offerings include three exceptional silky smooth Shiraz labels, as well as a beautifully crisp, dry Riesling; the two main varietals that our region is renowned for. Their portfolio also boasts a Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Shiraz Rosé, Sparkling Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Grenache.

After a very promising first vintage in 2008, Trevor acquired the adjoining land, securing a sustainable water supply and yet another 20 acres of vines, giving him around 100 acres of land with 40 acres under vine. He is now a fully-committed vigneron, living on the property in the vineyard’s original homestead.
With plans of tending to his grapes until he’s 103, Trevor’s vision is to turn this venture into a long-standing, multi-generational family-run winery that will be revered among the best in the Barossa. With 19-year-old Grandson Jack in training to become Brockenchack’s future winemaker & viticulturist, these wheels are already in motion.
They launched website sales in late 2013 and now have a growing premium wine membership that will soon be at capacity. Early in 2017 they launched a luxury bed & breakfast at the vineyard, surrounded by vines in every direction. And to complete their wine tourism offering, they opened our cellar door in 2018.
Brockenchack Awards
Over the last 12 years, Brockenchack Wines has received numerous awards and recognition for their range of wines. They currently export to New Zealand, China, Japan, Germany and the United States.

WILLIAM FREDERICK SHIRAZ
2009 William Frederick Shiraz | sold out
Rod Properjohn (WA wine writer & educator) | score 18½ / 20 | The super-premium wine of the stable is a turbo-charged dark shiraz with rich concentrated fruit, oak and tannins. Although powerful, it comes together with a silky texture and great balance over its extended palate length. An aged rib-eye beef steak would be in order with this.

5 stars | From one of our top tier wine members Bruce Watson | The William Frederick is better than Grange I say, and I have enjoyed many of both Grange and William Frederick. Mike Bennie (Wine Business Mag) | 93 points | From a single Eden Valley Vineyard. Spends 18 months in oak, then two years in bottle before release. Power and mellowness hand in hand. Black current and inky plum fruit character with smooth nougat tinged oak lending a hand. Drips from the palate with richness finishes with sinewy tannins.
Rod Properjohn (WA wine writer & educator) | score 17½ / 20 | There’s a youthful mauve appearance in this premium red and it is fathoms deep with pepper and anise. Medium weighted and advertising the strength of a great Barossa vintage, the wine stretches long in the mouth with blueberry, plum and supporting oak to a dry acid finish. Try with a flash-fried loin of kangaroo.

Rod Properjohn (WA wine writer & educator) | score 18½ / 20 | From 118 year old vines; this is a brilliant light green/straw colour and has a lifted citrus-blossom perfume. There is a long penetrating pure-fruited palate of lime juice, steely minerality, dryness and razor-sharp acidity and it’s absolutely perfect with battered pan-fried fillets of whiting. The price is an unbelievable $20.

The Adelaide Advertiser | Review | July 2015 | There’s always a great deal of interest in how the new vintage Rieslings express their range of florals and citrus flavours. Here we are immediately in pretty perfumed talc territory, white blossoms as well as well-sculpted, tight apple and lemon-like flavours – with what’s increasingly looking like a vintage-specific softer and fleshier acidity. There’s also a refreshing lemon ice-block-like feel.
The Wine Wankers | Review | July 2015 | A quality Eden Valley Riesling by the boutique small batch producer Brockenchack. Dry but aromatic with lovely fruit intensity driving home at the end of each sip. Would be perfect with roast pork and apple sauce. Yum!

2017 Mackenzie William 1896 Riesling
5 stars | The 3 Wines Men | After meeting the team @brockenchackwines recently I was blown away with how advanced their wines were. In particular the 2017 Mackenzie William 1869 Riesling. You’d be hard pressed to guess that this was a 2017 Riesling. It doesn’t have that acidic and citric sharpness that was expected, and that’s just one reason I love it. More lemon than lime, balanced nectarines and a nice little flinty finish. The most amazing thing about this cracking wine is that as well as it is right now, it’s only going to get better for the next 10+ years. Oh and if you think the name is a little different read the story on the website. It’s why I love family produced wines. All blood, sweat and cheers.

90 points | Mike Bennie | Wine Business Magazine | Crowd-pleasing kind of wine here, and it’s set around a sweet-fruit strawberries-and-cream feel. The perfume shows exactly that, while the palate is strawberry kissed but perks up with a zingy finish. Worth a visit.
