Know more about the oldest hotel in Queensland.
Nindigully Pub is Queensland’s oldest continuously licensed hotel (1864) located in its original condition and position on the banks of the Moonie River. The Gully, as it’s affectionately known, brewed its own beer and spirits before XXXX and Bundaberg Rum even existed. The Gully is in the bush (edge of the outback) and front heaps of camping and caravan spots along the beautiful tree-lined and water-filled river, maintained by the Balonne Shire Council.
They do have hot showers and toilets at the pub free of charge and accommodation is also available. There is a new toilet block constructed by Council in 2015 and a Dump Point. The Gully is a must-see for Australian history buffs as you can feel it all around you from the original buildings to the traditional farming lands. Â It is famous for the Hat Wall in the Public Bar and the enormous “Nindi Burgers”.
HOW TO GET THERE
The pub is 160 kilometres west of Goondiwindi, 45 kilometres east of St George, and approximately 70 kilometres north of the Queensland/New South Wales border. Â It is 1.3km south of the Barwon Hwy junction.
SITE ACCESS
Along Carnarvon Hwy, you’ll see a signpost upon reaching Mayes St. It is a short, part gravel road that leads you to the entrance.
FEES & BOOKINGS
There is no charge to camp at this location, but please support the hotel while you are staying here.
THINGS TO DO
As it is located near the Moonie River, anyone can swim, fish, and trap yabbies at their leisure. The place is also a great spot to base yourself and explore the small town’s local attractions.
