If you’re looking for a spot to set-up at the western end of the Great Ocean Road and Victoria’s ‘Shipwreck Coast’, this popular park sitting behind the dunes on the beach will be a destination you won’t want to miss. The sea air, the beautiful natural surroundings and the myriad of interesting sights to see in the local area make it a perfect base to return to after a day’s exploration.

The park is mostly level and open, but there is some shade available, so it is perfect for all types of campers, whether you are in a tent or trailer, up to the buses and big-rigs. Choose from powered or unpowered sites depending on your needs. All the usual amenities are here to make the stay comfortable, as well as undercover seating and outdoor bar-b-q facilities for camper’s use. The caretakers are in residence during the warmer months.

There is no potable water available at the site, so make sure you carry it with you. All supplies, including medical and banking facilities, are available close-by at a number of townships, so re-stocking will be easy.

The beach is a popular walking, swimming and fishing spot, with not only good catches but also great views. Nearby Port Fairy has a rich history on display at the local museum, as well as 50 National Trust Listed buildings, from the old whalers’ and sealers’ cottages to magnificent merchant’s mansions and public buildings. Also a bustling fishing port, the town is well worth a visit.

The region still reflects the strong Irish influence in many of the local names and the close at hand town of Koroit is recognised as one of Australia’s best examples of early Irish settlement.

Lovers of Australia’s flora and fauna will be delighted by a visit to Tower Hill Nature Reserve, developed within the crater of an extinct volcano.
