As its name suggests, the Barcoo Riverside Camp is located on the northern side of the Barcoo River, about 500 metres from the centre of Blackall. It is a low-cost camp that is available to caravan campers with self-contained facilities. Toilets and free hot showers are available in Short Street, which is on the eastern side of the camping site.

HOW TO GET THERE
Turn south off the Landsborough Highway onto Isisford-Blackall Road. The camping area is on the left on the corner of Garden Street.

SITE ACCESS
The site is accessible directly from Garden Street.

FEES & BOOKINGS
A fee of $8 is payable at the Visitor Information Centre. If after hours, there is also an honesty box at the entrance of the camp. For more details, you may call or email via the details below.

THINGS TO DO
Blackall has the only fully intact steam-powered wool washing plant left in Australia. The historic Blackall Woolscour is a living museum and a direct physical link to Australia’s pioneering era. It is totally authentic, unique, full of history and has great educational and social values.

Jack Howe, Australia’s most famous shearer shore a record of 321 sheep in 7 hours 40 minutes in 1892. A memorial statue is located outside the Universal Garden Centre in Shamrock St. Inside is a gallery, with a historic display, relating to legendary shearer Jack Howe and the local town history

The Black Stump, located behind the State School in Thistle Street, was used for surveying purposes and permanently marks the original Astro Station which was established in 1887.

Rest, relax and revive at the Blackall Aquatic Centre. With its therapeutic qualities and relaxed quiet outdoor surroundings it’s easy to enjoy the facilities at the aquatic centre.

Other attractions are Ram Park, Labor Federation Memorial, Pioneer Bore, Fossilised Tree Stump, Masonic Lodge, Major Mitchell Memorial, Town Bore No.4, Blackall Cemetery, Bushman’s Hotel, “The Don” mural, Mr & Mrs Behan’s buggy display, Wishing Well at McLean Place, Muir’s Garage, Blackall Library – Town Quilt and Regional Wood, and Idalia National Park.
