Alpana Station in the heart of the Flinders Ranges is a working sheep station that is perfectly situated for those wanting to explore and enjoy the spectacular scenery and gorges of the central Flinders Ranges region. Your hosts, David, and Sally Henery love to welcome visitors, travellers, and campers to their property.
Alpana is pet-friendly and offers both powered and unpowered camping sites.
For those who love privacy then you will love the scenic bush camping area known as The ‘Horse-yards’ campground. Set on the banks of the Blinman Creek in the Parachilna Gorge, this campground offers lots of privacy and is accessible by high clearance vehicles and vans only (season permitting), and supports four camping spots, with spring water in the creek bed. You will need to collect a key from your hosts to get into the area. Alternatively, 5km south of Blinman near the Alpana homestead is ‘Bill’s Paddock’ campground. Accessible to standard cars and vans, you can choose your favourite spot on the southern bank of Butler’s Creek surrounded by giant River Red Gums and native pine trees. Both bush campgrounds have pit toilet facilities.
Alpana also offers 4 powered sites adjacent to the shearers’ quarters in the homestead area and on the tree-lined banks of Alpana Creek. The sites all have clean and modern private ensuite bathrooms. There is a shelter next to the bathrooms that have a gas BBQ, table, bench seats, and a fire pit for general use.
Alpana Station also has two excellent accommodation options for those who want to invite family and friends to join them for their outback holiday. The Shearers’ Quarters and Nungawurtina Hut. Nungawurtina Hut is a pine and pug hut built-in 2002 in the traditional style as of the 1880s from native pine and local stone.
There is so much to see and do in this special part of South Australia, David and Sally look forward to you visiting and know you will love it as much as they do.
HOW TO GET THERE
The best way here is on the sealed road from Hawker, past Wilpena, and up towards Blinman. The site is on the left (west) side of the road 5km before you get to Blinman. There’s an Alpana sign 1km before the turnoff as well as the sign at the turnoff.
SITE ACCESS
Come up the driveway and park along the road outside the Reception. Please attend reception between 8am – 6pm for check-in.
FEES & BOOKING
Fee is from $25/night for powered sites and $40/night for 2 people for Ensuite powered sites
