Located at the southern end of the park, 42 Mile Crossing is 15 minutes south of Salt Creek. It offers a large campground, accessible by 2WD and is ideal for tents, caravans and campervans. A walking trail offers access to the beach. There are some level grassed areas and semi-sheltered by low trees.
Stretching more than 130 kilometres, Coorong National Park protects a string of saltwater lagoons which are sheltered from the Southern Ocean by the sweeping sand dunes of the Younghusband Peninsula.

To protect the breeding site of the hooded plover, access to the beach north of Tea Tree Crossing to the Murray Mouth is closed to vehicles from 24 October to 24 December each year.
