Port Fairy, VIC
Located at the end of the Great Ocean Road (if travelling west) and on the famed Shipwreck Coast of Victoria is the small fishing village of Port Fairy. We first passed through Port Fairy on our first lap of the country a few years ago and were super impressed with what it had to offer.
Small, quaint, full of history, with loads of things to see and do. Fresh seafood everywhere, and an abundance of wildlife including Whales and Seal Colonies. It is also an artisans delight and home to the Port Fairy Folk Festival, one of the largest in Australia.
With loads of places to stay, it is the ideal location to base yourself and explore the SW coastline of Victoria.

Combining her love of travelling with working, Linda is one of the growing number of Digital Aussie nomads taking to travelling and working their way around Australia. Realising there are no boundaries, other than the ones we place on ourselves, and with her trusty companions Mark and Dakar Dingo, Linda is now “Livin’ the Dream” and wants to share it with everyone, not only sharing her story, but those of other travellers. Looking for somewhere to stay over Christmas?
With caravanning and camping being one of the most popular activities to do during the Christmas & New Year period, chances are, if you have not booked your Campground or Caravan Park by now, you may miss out. Any Free Camps around the place are also sure to be quite full at that time of year. An alternative to this could be House Sitting.
If you are a property owner looking to go away over the Christmas & New Year break, or any time of the year for that matter, finding someone to look after your pets or property can be a challenge.
This is why we introduced the House Sitting category in the FRC Directory. It is a win win situation for both parties.
The property owner gets to go away knowing their pets are being looked after and at the same time saves costs on boarding kennels. Or that their gardens are being nurtured by a Caravanner who has perhaps missed their garden while travelling.
The traveller gets to park their rig on a private property at no cost, with the bonus of looking after some pets, catching up on some gardening, and getting to check out the local area in more detail.
The problem is we currently have thousands of members looking for places to house sit, but we are currently short on properties that require a House Sitter. No sooner do we list a suitable property than it is snapped up.
So if you are looking to go away and would like a traveller to look after your property, or you are a traveller looking for a property to house sit, follow the link below to find out more about how to do both. Listing in the directory is Free and there are no costs involved to either parties.
