Welcome to Free Range Camping e-news

Hello everyone, and welcome to the November edition of the FRC e-News.  Although Christmas is fast approaching and only about 7 weeks away, there will not be much rest in FRC HQ as there is still so much happening!

In this addition we will update you on the latest developments with FRC.  Our town in focus is Murwillumbah in Northern NSW.  We have look at the costs associated with travelling on the road, and we have another great article from the Caravan Council of Australia with a checklist for anyone considering purchasing a caravan.

And in preparation for Christmas, we offer a timely reminder to get in early and list your House for a House Sitter, and to check out the FRC Online Shop for some ideal Christmas presents for anyone who loves camping and caravanning.

New App, New Features, New Icons & New Categories

Whilst we have been on a few short trips this year, predominantly in Queensland and Northern NSW, the majority of our time has been spent in SE Queensland where we have been working on improving the Website and our Directory.  And we are happy to say, we have our long awaited App well and truly underway and due out very early in the New Year.

Over the next few months you will probably notice some changes and enhancements to the site, including new icons, new categories, better performance and functionality.  During this time we continue to ask for your patience, as we improve things.  We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has joined us at FRC for their support as we continue to build what we know will be a valuable resource for Campers & Caravanners all around Australia.

Focus on Murwillumbah

We first drove into Murwillumbah in August this year and have been back three times since as there is so much to see and do in the area.  It is such a welcoming town and community, and we are happy to say it is Super RV Friendly.

So much so, that we have chosen Murwillumbah as the Pilot Town for our FRC Member Discount scheme.  In co-operation with the Murwillumbah Showground Campgrounds, the caretakers have organised for 12 participating businesses to provide offers, benefit or discounts to all campers staying at the Showground Campgrounds.

The Big Lap! - How Much Does it Cost?

One of the questions we are often asked about travelling on the road full time is “How much does it cost?”    It obviously varies from person to person and the style of camping you prefer.  For us, after four years on the road, we have learnt to budget, and can safely say it has been cheaper for us to live on the road than when we were living in a house.

However, we recently touched base with Ian and Kylie, who with their son Toby are in the middle of their big lap.  They have managed to keep tabs of everything they have spent and done, including some interesting tit bits.  They have been kind enough to share the details with us all.  So if you are planning to do the big lap and want a bit of an idea of costs, this is a great article to have a look at.

Find a House Sitter for Christmas

With Christmas fast approaching now is a good time to think about who will look after your property if you are going away.  Getting a House Sitter in is a great way to ensure there will be someone to look after your property or pets.  Who better than a traveller with their own Caravan or Motorhome to look after your property, as they have their own accommodation so they don’t need to be in the house.

So rather than leave your home empty, or boarding your pets, why not leave them at home where they feel safe, and get someone in to care for them.  We have thousands of members always looking for somewhere to stay, especially over the Christmas break.

This is a totally free service to use, and there are no costs involved.  Click on the link below to find out more about listing your property with FRC.
